7 inch vinyl record – evidence for a ghost megastructure

Rotherhithe Archive #O2361

PoL notes :

City Road Behemoth, the 1980 single by forgotten Chislehurst synthpop duo The Direct Lines, may not have left much of a mark on music. But the 7″ is a sought-after artefact among devotees of its eponymous lost building; the vast, ethereal megastructure that haunts City Road along the border of Hackney and Islington.

I was a big fan of 80s synthpop and had this in my collection. It’s very cool! Kind of a cross between Gary Numan and Living By Numbers by New Musik. I put in an order for their ‘Black Stones’ EP but my local record shop burned down before I could collect it.
